note bodies parse the browser's tag vocabulary (b/strong, i/em, u, s, h2, h3, ul, ol, li, br, hr, p, plus contenteditable's divs) into an AnnotatedString: notes mode opens rendered and edits a plain-text markup that serialises back to the same tags on save, so a formatted note survives a phone edit; the TOC preview line and note search read rendered text instead of raw markup
